Some Muslim parents might wonder why I am addressing the topic of Christmas, but it’s crucial to understand that many Muslims, including our youth, are being led astray from the path of Islam because of the influences surrounding this celebration. For many children, especially those in school settings, Christmas appears fun and exciting, yet it is rooted in shirk and misguidance. As parents, we must protect our children from engaging in such practices that are forbidden (haram) and provide them with the knowledge to stand firm in their Islamic identity.
The Risks of Allowing Christmas Celebrations
Our children, whether homeschooled or attending public schools, must be educated about Christmas from an Islamic perspective. It’s not enough to simply say it’s haram and then allow them to wear Christmas jumpers, give gifts, or exchange cards. These actions convey acceptance and even celebration of Christmas, which is a direct conflict with Islamic teachings. Last year, it was truly disheartening to see Muslim children in Christmas jumpers. This goes against the principles of Islam, and as Muslim parents, it’s our duty to guide them away from such influences.
If we fail to educate and protect our children, they may grow up to be Muslim parents who fully embrace these celebrations, unaware of the serious consequences. Allah’s displeasure is upon those who celebrate Christmas, as well as those who support or participate in such events. As a revert to Islam, I made a conscious decision to avoid these practices, and I hope that by Allah’s will, you will do the same for your family.
A Solution: Teaching About Christmas from an Islamic Perspective
To support parents, I have created resources titled “What is Christmas and Why Can’t Muslims Celebrate It?” These materials provide an Islamic perspective on Christmas, helping parents explain to their children why Muslims avoid these celebrations. By engaging with this resource, you can equip your children with the answers and confidence they need to navigate school environments where Christmas is often celebrated.

Final Advice for Parents
My advice is simple: We should work together to educate and guide our children. Resist requests to wear Christmas jumpers, send cards, or participate in Christmas parties at school. I feel a deep responsibility for these children whom I am creating resources for, and it pains me to see them involved in celebrations that go against our beliefs.
May Allah protect us, rectify our affairs, and keep us away from the temptations of Shaytan.
