The Three Core Principles of Islam Every Muslim Should Know

Updated: Oct 1

As Muslims, our belif is built on three essential principles: belief in Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad (ﷺ) as our prophet. These beliefs form the foundation of our devotion to Allah and shape how we live our lives.

The Importance of Loving Allah, Muhammad (ﷺ), and Islam

Our belief as Muslims means that we should love Allah, His Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ), and Islam more than anything else—more than ourselves, our families, our wealth, or even all of humanity. This deep love guides our actions, words, and thoughts, and it strengthens our connection with our Creator.

The Three Questions in the Grave

One of the most significant aspects of our belief is what happens after death, particularly the questioning in the grave. According to a well-known hadith (Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and others; verified to be authentic by Al-Albani (Sahih ul-Jami’ no. 1676)) every individual will be asked three critical questions when they enter the grave:

1. Who is your Lord?

2. What is your religion?

3. Who is your prophet?

These questions are central to our belief, and the ability to answer them correctly depends on how we lived our lives in accordance with these core principles.

What Happens in the Grave: A Lesson for Every Muslim

In this resource, we delve into the details of what happens in the grave, both to believers and disbelievers. For believers, the grave is a place of peace and mercy, while for disbelievers, it can be a place of torment. Understanding this reality is essential for every Muslim, as it reminds us to live our lives with purpose snd striving to uphold the three core beliefs every day.

Teaching These Lessons to Our Children

It is crucial to teach these questions and their significance to every Muslim child. As parents, educators, and community members, we should ensure that children not only memorize these questions but also understand the importance of living by them. By instilling this understanding, we help them prepare to answer the questions of the grave, In shaa' Allah.

Conclusion

Living as a true believer in Islam means embracing the three core principles of belief in Allah, Islam, and the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). These beliefs guide us through life and prepare us for the hereafter. Let us strive to live by these principles and teach our children to do the same, so that, when the time comes, we will be able to answer the questions of the grave confidently, In shaa' Allah.
